Review of the Gap of Dunloe tour from Killarney, with hiking, jaunting carts, a three-lake boat ride, costs, timing, and tips.

“The Gap of Dunloe is stunning and we thought the day was organized very well with the hike through the gap and the boat tour of the lakes with a funny and knowledgeable captain. We really enjoyed hiking the 7 miles versus taking the horse and cart. The only negative was the guys with the horse and cart finding us with 2.5 miles and 1 hour to go in the hike insinuating we weren't going to make it as "the boats might leave early today" (ahead of the scheduled 2pm departure) and telling us that we needed to pay them 50 euros to take us the rest of the way.…”

“My husband and I had an amazing time on the jaunting tour in the Gap of Dunloe - such a beautiful, magical Irish experience. The boat tour was also a great way to experience Killarney. One thing to consider - as a parent myself, I would not recommend the boat part of the tour for young children - as it ruins the experience for others. There were 2 small children on the boat that screamed and complained the entire time, and it was very distracting. Outside of that, we had an incredible time!”

“I almost skipped Gap of Dunloe and I am so glad I didn't. It was such a beautiful experience. We were very fortunate with the weather, it was sunny and visibility was great. The tour went smoothly. Everything was well organised and our driver was very helpful. I had to catch a bus to my next destination right after the tour and they let me leave my backpack in their office and even dropped me to bus station ❤️ Overall great experience!”

“A superb 11 km walk with the family, with a small pass to cross, in the middle of superb landscapes, then a ride in a small boat (12 passengers) on the 3 lakes of the national park, with there also a magnificent environment, commented by a friendly and passionate guide. The icing on the cake, meeting with an eagle soaring above one of the lakes. Everyone loved it, including the young adults aged 17 and 18. Note that, although the pass is not very difficult to cross for a person in good health, people who do not feel able, for various reasons, to do the 11 km on foot, can…”
